Zatanna #6 is here and with the end of this story arc. While there are some astounding, and I do mean jaw dropping variant covers from Frank Cho, C. Homare, and Juliet Nneka, Jamal Campbell bring his show to the main stage. Yet again Jamal Campbell provides a beautifully detailed cover, this time featuring the Mistress of Magic breaking through the mirror. I love all the prismatic details and the purple being the spotlight color was a masterful choice.

But there is much to discuss, let’s get to the story!

The Lies We Tell Ourselves

As Zatanna #6 opens readers get the treat of a vivid animation style detailing the story of how Allura  came to have grievance with the Zatara family. A sorrowful tale of justifiable evil told to the White Lady in order to gain an ally…or pawn. A promise made, sealing a deal of mutual revenge. The White Lady getting her revenge on Brother Night and Allura exacting her revenge on the only remaining Zatara left, Zatanna!

Utilizing the weapon Laevateinn, crafted by the God of Mischief himself, Loki. The sword totes many mystic abilities but the most presently important lies hand in hand with the deal struck. “Strike someone with its blade and you can implant a lie they can’t help but believe.” Sound like a familiar thread?  Time has come for the deal to be repaid, but Brother Night has a friend of his own as he plays the Ultimate Reverse card, and Zatanna has come along with her friends in order to finish things…once and for all.

Throw A Lasso Round His Head

There are many moments of closure that we get with Zatanna #6. Beautiful moments like seeing Zatanna enter the person hell that Daniel has been facing, watching Basil exact his revenge, and of course seeing Zatanna in her full present self free of doubt. Even the way Zatanna handles the respective situations with Allura and the White Lady show that she is able to take on different points of view. Her compassionate spirit as well as determination are in the full spotlight.

Conclusion

Jamal Campbell has shown his mastery in the mystic arts for sure. Zatanna #6 is an astounding example of a closure without having all the answers. Leaving some leg room so to speak.  The artwork for this series has been magical calling in old fans and new alike. A deeper understanding of Zatanna showing her in ways that speak to her fans and telling them we are all broken…and the lies we tell ourselves are the ones easiest to believe.

Thanks for joining me for these last runs, see you on the next read friends!
