Jason Aaron Takes ‘Batman: Off-World’

Longtime Marvel writer Jason Aaron will be writing the new mini-series Batman: Off-World.

The story will focus on Batman traveling to an alien world alone to face a new threat. Doug Mahnke will handle the art.

Here’s DC’s official description of the comic:

A routine night in Gotham City for a young Batman proves to be anything but routine when the crime-fighter is confronted with a sort of foe he’s never faced before—one from beyond the stars! A universe of possible alien threats leads Batman to make a daring decision—to venture alone into the far reaches of the cosmos for the very first time, where the Dark Knight will face the fight of his life!

Jason Aaron’s Marvel Credits

Aaron has taken the time to gush about DC Comics and how it brings back a childhood nostalgia for him.

I fell in love with comics because of DC. The first books my young, beardless self ever plucked from a grocery store spinner rack were the New Teen Titans and World’s Finest and Batman. Books that opened the door to a universe of stories that would quite literally change the course of my life.

So, it is with great honor and excitement that at long last I get to make my proper debut as a DC writer, with a Batman story that takes a young Dark Knight on his own first journey into the far, wondrous reaches of the DC cosmos.”

While at Marvel, Aaron wrote a large portion of Marvel’s most famous characters. Among them, he had popular runs on Thor, X-MenStar Wars, and Ghost Rider. He most recently finished up a lengthy run on The Avengers.

Fans of his work will know Aaron for his off-beat ideas and out-there science fiction concepts. For a small sample of his work, Aaron’s last Avengers story had the team convert their headquarters into a multi-story, zombie robot to destroy a living planet with Dr. Doom’s face on it. If Aaron takes that wild sci-fi flare with him on his Batman project, then the Caped Crusader is in for a crazy time.
