‘Birds of Prey’ Will Have 90’s Vibe

Article by Chris Foti

After Todd Phillips’ Joker hits theaters this October, the next DC film slated for release is Birds of Prey (And the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn).

At this time, we still know relatively little about the film. We know that Margot Robbie is returning to the role of Harley Quinn, Jurnee Smollett-Bell is Black Canary, Rosie Perez is Renee Montoya, Ella Jay Basco is Cassandra Cain and Mary Elizabeth-Winstead is Huntress. We also know the film’s villain will be Black Mask, played by Ewan McGregor.

That’s really about it. We don’t know when it takes place in the DC Universe, how it connects to other films, if at all, or what the overall premise is, though we can make an educated guess that it somehow revolves around Harley becoming more of a hero, based on the title. All we’ve got so far, is a short teaser trailer that doesn’t really say anything.

Thanks to Mary Elizabeth-Winstead, who is currently doing press for her upcoming film Gemini Man, we now have a hint of how the movie will feel.

It’s all women and genuinely funny and weird. It feels from the 90’s, in the best way.

Harley’s outfit certainly has a 90’s vibe to it from the trailer.

Birds of Prey (And the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn) finished wrapping in April and is set for release on February 7, 2020. With so little information on the film and only 8 months until release, I wouldn’t be surprised if we got a full trailer at San Diego Comic Con this summer.

What are your thoughts on the 90’s vibe? Are you excited to see the Birds of Prey on film for the first time? Let us know! Personally, I’m pretty pumped to see McGregor’s take on Black Mask.
