With just 2 episodes to go on the first season of FOX’s show Gotham, fans and those involved in making the show are already thinking about season 2, which begins filming this summer. Executive producer and showrunner Bruno Heller isn’t just thinking about the sophomore season of his show, but also one of the biggest mysteries on it: The Joker.
There have been a few nods this season (Jerome, the Red Hood), but it was also left generic enough that we aren’t sure when/if he’ll show up as the Clown Prince of Crime at all (he will). In an interview with Comicbook.com, Heller says they are going to get right to it come next fall.
“You’re not going to see teases of The Joker before the end of the season, because the beginning of Season Two is a big Joker-oriented, or ‘how the Joker came to be’ kind of story. The beginning of Season Two is the very earliest origins of how The Joker came to be.”
The most popular theory? Jerome is a young version of The Joker. For those of you who don’t remember, Jerome debuted in episode 16 “The Blind Fortune Teller”, and was a young lad who traveled with a carnival… and revealed his true character at the GCPD in front of Gordon (my favorite scene of the season).
Gotham‘s next episode, “The Anvil or the Hammer”, airs Monday night at 8 on FOX.
