‘LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight’ To Have a Free Comic Book Day Tie-In

DC Comics will publish a tie-in comic for LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight video game for Free Comic Book Day.

Beware of the Batman writer Ivan Cohen will scribe video game tie-in. Batman: Under the Hood artist Paul Lee will illustrate.

The comic is titled “The LEGO Batman Returns”. It will be a day-in-the-life of Batman as he returns to Gotham City after a brief break. According to the official press release, “encounters a variety of familiar DC characters, paying homage to the Dark Knight’s history in media, with references to past films, television shows, and comic books, combined with signature LEGO humor.”

LEGO Batman Easter Eggs Galore

Warner Bros. Games, TT Games, DC, and LEGO are collaborating to the release the tie-in comic. The comic will have a lot of fun easter eggs for the Bat-fans.  For example, the first panel of the comic will homages Detective Comics #27’s cover where Batman is swinging and grabbing a criminal by the neck. This is just “one of several nods to DC lore sprinkled within.”

Another easter egg is this sweet cover. Bat-fans recognize the homage to Jim Lee’s Batman #608 cover- which is the first chapter of the original Hush story line.

LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight  will be released on all video game console platforms PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, as well as PC on May 22nd.  However, the Deluxe edition pre-orders offer 72-hour early access on May 19th. Additionally, fans who  pre-order will also receive a DLC Dark Knight Returns Batsuit.

Fans can pick up the comic on Free Comic Book Day on May 2nd. If you are not able to get a physical copy, then it will also be available on the DC Universe Infinite app.
