James Gunn reported that he does not plan to have The Brave and the Bold released the same year as The Batman Part II.
The DC Studios co-president took to his regular Threads sessions to clarify things with fans. When a fan asked Gunn when will The Brave and the Bold come out, Gunn was quick to respond.
“I’m dependent on when there’s an actionable script ready so there is no way of me guessing this. Also, frankly, we’re well into [The] Batman 2, and I wouldn’t want to cloud the Batsphere until after that.”
It sounds as if Gunn is just focusing on making sure The Batman Part II comes out good. The film finished its script last June and is in the process of casting new characters. On the DCU side of things, there is no firm script in place for The Brave and the Bold. The only tangible piece of news is that The Flash director Andy Muschetti will direct the film. However since then, fans have heard no new updates.
Gunn also went on to emphasize how he will never release two Batman movies in the same year.
“I think both Batman and [Wonder Woman] are incredibly important. But I’m also not going to have two Batman movies come out in the same year.”
While that news is disappointing to fans who are looking forward to the DCU’s take on Batman and his supporting cast, it is not surprising. The two movies allegedly have two different actors playing Batman and two very different versions of the Batman mythos. This could be very confusing to see two version of the the live-action Batman occurring around the same time. After all, some people were confused that Ben Affleck’s Batman is the same Batman from The Dark Knight Rises. And those movies came out 4 years apart from each other!
Given The Batman Part II comes out October 2027, that means that The Brave and the Bold will likely come out in 2028 at the earliest. So fans are going to continue waiting.
The Batman Part II will start production in spring 2026 and will hit theaters on October 1, 2027.
