Nightwing #131 shows us that Dick is taking on the role of mentor… to an all powerful Kryptonian 11 year old. Nothing could possibly go wrong!
Nightwing v Mothman: Dawn of Just This
A character’s power level can vary depending on who is writing a book. Currently over in the Wonder Woman run, Mouse Man is fighting Wonder Woman to a stand still. Wild right? In this title, Mothman, who always seems to suffer a violent beating… Is an idiot. It seems that Dan Watters wanted to write him as an idiot, and succeeded in making him look like an idiot. He has a submarine, he has a drone, he has missiles. All quite intimidating weapons in the right hands. In this he has added a Moth mask on the front of all of them and turned all of their names into Moth puns. Similar to Batmobile, Bat boat, Batterang. My favourite part, when he’s buying these missiles, and he says to whomever he’s buying them from, can you add a Moth face to the front of this deadly weapon. All jokes aside, it was a good laugh to read. Not to mention when Nightwing is teamed up with Nightwing Prime. An 11 year old who has been given the equivalent power of Superman by a 5th dimensional imp. It makes sense to have a new Superman fight Mothman…. right?
Creepy Circus
The real villains in this issue are not Mothman by the way or a gang of juiced up Man-Bat thugs. It is the robocop style police droids rolling around the city with heavy artillery, and a damn spooky F%^&*ing Circus nightmare ghost that has been giving everyone including Dick bloody nightmares. I’m very very intrigued to see what these two intertwined rogues’ endgames are, because they are going to an awful lot of trouble to get to it. Here’s hoping that the pay off pays off.
Conclusion
Nightwing #131 is a great issue that ties into the greater DC universe and adds a great amount to Nightwing himself. Really enjoying this run.
