DC and Realm announced twelve more DC High Volume: Batman with various classic Batman stories in the dramatic podcast format.
The news was revealed this past week at New York Comic Con. Currently, DC High Volume: Batman is wrapping up their audio drama for Batman: Dark Victory. Dark Victory introduces Dick Grayson as Robin, as well showing the rogues gallery replacing the last vestiges of Gotham’s old Falcone crime family.
Following Batman: Dark Victory, new episodes will continue to drop every Wednesday starting with Darwyne Cooke’s classic graphic novel Batman: Ego. The first chapter of the adaptation hits airwaves on October 29th and then chapter two on November 5th. After that, DC will adapt Batman: The Gauntlet, which is the story of Dick Grayson’s first mission as Robin on November 12th.
Then-most interestingly-the podcast seems to jump ahead in time with the dramatic radio adaptation of Nightwing: Year One. In that tale, Dick Grayson ages out of the role of Robin and strikes out on his own to become Nightwing. That story arc starts on November 19th. Then the podcast will cover the seminal Batman: The Killing Joke as a two-part event. Chapter one drops on New Year’s Eve on December 31st and chapter two on January 7th. As most Bat-fans know, the infamous Alan Moore tale is where the Joker shoots and paralyzes Barbara Gordon.
To cap off, The Killing Joke, the podcast follows Barbara’s journey from an able-bodied Batgirl to the wheelchair-bound, tech expert Oracle. The podcast will dramatize the story Oracle: Year One from Batman: Chronicles #5.This story line comes out on January 14th.
Old Cast Members and New Actors Join ‘DC High Volume: Batman’
The new stories for DC High Volume: Batman will continue to feature their main cast. Jason Spisak continues as Batman/Bruce Wayne, Jay Paulson as Commissioner James Gordon, Reba Buhr as Catwoman/Seline Kyle, Adam O’Byrne as Harvey Dent/Two-Face, Simon Vance as Alfred Pennyworth, Dan Gill as The Joker, Jesse Burch as The Riddler, and Kevin Smith as The Penguin.
However, new cast members include Terry McGinnis himself Will Friedle as Nightwing/Dick Grayson in Nightwing: Year One, Troy Baker as The Joker in Batman: The Killing Joke, Shelby Young as Batgirl/Barbara Gordon, Chester Rushing as Superman/Clark Kent, and Stephanie Koenig as Lois Lane. The recast for the Joker is an interesting implication for their upcoming Killing Joke story arc. Perhaps they wanted a more serious tone with Baker’s voice.
The new episodes of DC High Volume: Batman start October 29th. Fans can follow and listen to DC High Volume: Batman for free on DC’s YouTube channel, as well as all streaming platforms, like Spotify or Apple Podcasts.
