The newly-released Batman #1 has officially sold over half a million copies.
The issue is the first in a newly relaunched run by Eisner Award-winning writer Matt Fraction and artist Jorge Jiménez. To meet the demand, the comic is going back for a second printing.
The second printing will feature new cover art, as well as the repurposed Jiménez Batman #1 main cover but with a recolored logo. Now the logo sports a sleek grey color scheme. Jiménez and colorist Tomeu Morey also created a new cardstock variant cover featuring a rather beat-down Batman who’s missing a shoe. Additionally, Dan Mora has a new variant cover that has all of the rogues gallery on it. Mora’s variant cover will be available in cardstock and foil editions.
Other Recent Comics That Have Dominated
So far the top selling comics of 2025 is another Batman comic. Batman #158- the first issue of “Hush 2”- sold over 400,000 copies. Beyond that, Skybound and Image Comics’ Invincible Universe: Battle Beast No. 1 also pushed 400, 000 comics.
To compare to 2024’s comics highest sellers, included the relaunch of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and- of course- Absolute Batman #1. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles #1 sold about 300,000 copies.
However, Absolute Batman #1 is an interesting outlier. So far, it sold an estimated over 400,000 copies. I say “so far”, because the wild thing is that it is still selling more copies despite debuting a year ago. So the numbers are still not final for issue no. 1 yet. DC most recently published yet another printing of Absolute #1 during Batman Day on September 20th, so people are still buying up the first issue of that title.
To give more context, a wildly-successful comic issue sells over 100,000 copies in modern day standards. The fact that the past two years have been dominated by multiple Batman comics that are selling over four or five times that standard is absolutely insane. DKN gives props to DC for pumping out some of the most successful Batman titles in recent years.
The second printing of Batman #1 hits comic shops on October 15th.
