Review by Bryant Lucas
The cosmos is cracking, as Gorilla Grodd ascends toward divinity in this month’s Justice League Unlimited #7.
The Legion of Doom has conquered the Watchtower and scattered the Justice League across time using Air Wave’s tachyon energy. But as Grodd’s lust for power intensifies, a shocking truth emerges — Air Wave isn’t dead. He’s been twisted into a living signal, connecting timelines and ripe for exploitation. With time collapsing and Grodd on the brink of godhood, the surviving heroes must rally across centuries for one last chance to set the timeline right.
Groddlike Ambitions and Timey-Wimey Talk
Mark Waid once again demonstrates his masterful command of high-concept superhero storytelling. The central conceit — weaponizing a hero into a time-scattering device — is both emotionally devastating and narratively compelling. Waid balances multiversal stakes with intimate moments, giving Air Wave a tragic arc that hits hard. Grodd’s transformation from brute to mad prophet is chilling and believable, with dialogue that channels both intellect and primal rage. Occasionally, the script edges into exposition overload, but that’s the price of playing with this many characters and timelines. Fortunately, Waid keeps the momentum strong with smart pacing and clear stakes.
Monkey Business Never Looked So Good
Travis Moore’s pencils are nothing short of superb. He nails the chaotic energy of multiverse-spanning conflict while giving every scene a cinematic flow. From ancient Arabia to the snowy end of time, each locale feels distinct and visually rich. Gorilla Grodd, in particular, is a visual standout — regal, menacing, and terrifyingly expressive. Tamra Bonvillain’s colors amplify the tension, bathing the Omega Rift in sickly reds and brilliant greens that make the time energy feel alive. The transition effects for Air Wave’s spectral form and tachyon bursts are beautifully rendered, tying the visual storytelling directly to the plot’s emotional weight.
Conclusion
Justice League Unlimited #7 delivers a gripping penultimate chapter packed with emotional resonance, world-ending stakes, and top-tier visuals. Waid’s script soars with ambition, while Moore and Bonvillain elevate every panel into a cosmic opera of chaos and hope. The cliffhanger is brutal, the action is explosive, and the heart — oh, the heart — is very much intact.
Final Verdict: Pulse-pounding, heartfelt, and absolutely bananas.
