The Quest VR game Batman: Arkham Shadow had a new update that dramatized Dick Grayson meeting Bruce Wayne for the first time.
Shadow is a prequel to the popular Arkham trilogy of video games. Continuity-wise, Shadow falls in between Arkham Origins and Arkham Asylum. One downside of Asylum starting in the middle of Batman’s career is the fans missed out on a lot of backstory, like how Batman met the Joker or recruited any members of the Bat-Family. By the time we get to Asylum, everybody has been well-established in their roles for some time. Batman already has Barbara Gordon acting as the Oracle, Dick Grayson is already Nightwing, and Tim Drake is the most current Robin.
‘Shadow’ Reveals Dick Grayson’s First Appearance
However, Shadow finally grants players a peek of how Dick Grayson met Batman, which ultimately leads to him joining the Bat-Family. In Shadow, we first see Dick as a member of the Rat King’s cult. He is a young adult orphan who is part of a disaffected community of disgruntled anarchists until Batman took down the Rat King. While the main game does not explicitly name Dick, but his Haly’s Circus jacket with the red and yellow color scheme and breast badege gives away his identity.
The latest game update shows an extra post-credit scene where Dick meets Bruce Wayne and moves him out of his dilapidated hotel living situation and into Wayne Manor. Presumably, this is the start of Dick’s journey to becoming Robin and then later Nightwing.
Will There Be Another ‘Arkham’ Sequel?
So will there be a sequel to Arkham Shadow that spotlights Dick as Robin? There is no official word yet. However, the game recently boasted of over 1 million players. An in-game achievement graphic revealed the number of players over the course of the months since its October release. So it seems like Shadow is highly successful and a sequel seems likely. But will we see a more Robin-centric adventure? Only time will tell for that.
Batman: Arkham Shadow is now available exclusively on the Meta Quest 3 VR.
