Jumping back in with everyone’s favorite character Casandra Cain. We left Cas going undercover to get information about a group of people who… somehow… managed to kidnap some Amazons. Let’s see what the Birds can do about springing them free in Birds of Prey #15

Undercover Boss

Kelly Thompson is spitting straight truths in Birds of Prey #15. I am not afraid to say it. There are several moments where we once again get to see how amazing Black Canary is as a leader of the team. Thompson is just smashing out amazing dialogue scene after scene. Cassandra Cain is such an interesting character, and she kicks butt in every sense of the phrase. Seeing her be “Phase One” for this plan and getting to see her undercover is like watching magic happen.

Thompson gives us cute little healing moments with the team, without taking away from the action that is happening on the mission. Being able to individually write for not only your main characters, but side Heroes that come in and the big bads… that’s next level author skills right there.

Beautifully Bat-tastic

Sami Basri is quickly becoming a favourite artist. The depiction of these amazing women is so crisp and clean. I feel like Cas has been aged up a little and looks mid-twenties. I’m not mad about it, she looks great! You can tell there has been some tweaks in character design with each new artist on the series, but I love the way Basri draws faces and close ups. Mixing that in with the color work of Adriano Lucas, you get stunning panels that make me want to create love poems. There was one in particular in Birds of Prey #15 that took my breath away. I was so hyped and amazed by it I stared at it in awe for a good 5 minutes.

Conclusion

The Birds of Prey are never going to give up. Thompson has added so much more to these ladies that were already so well developed, and I can not wait to continue loving their sisterhood for as long as they’ll be a team.
