Holy hot rod, Batman! The LEGO group has put a new set up on their site that is sure to get fans of the 60s Batman excited. This new set is named LEGO DC Batman: The Classic TV Series Batmobile and is a model of the famous car featured in the iconic Adam West TV series. And I have to say that this set looks absolutely gorgeous! For my money, the 1966 version of the Batmobile is the coolest car ever and this set does it justice.
Lego gives a description of their model:
LEGO DC Batman: The Classic TV Series Batmobile (76328) is a collectible building kit for adult fans seeking a rewarding project to build and display. This creative gift for adults will appeal to Batman enthusiasts as well as anyone with an interest in 1960s pop culture.
This eye-catching piece of DC Super Heroes memorabilia is inspired by the iconic Batmobile from the 1966 TV show. The vehicle features a molded windshield, rotatable wheels, authentic decorations and an opening trunk containing the Bat-Computer. A 1966-style Batman minifigure wearing his distinctive cape and cowl and holding his Batarang stands on a platform (the minifigure does not fit inside the car). LEGO’s web site stresses that this set as being for adults. It bears the age recommendation of 18 and older, and the site uses the phrase “Adults Welcome”. Also, it refers to the set as a “gift for adult fans of DC Super Heroes”. And this makes sense, as most fans of the classic TV show are much more likely to be adults. While children would likely be drawn to more modern versions of the Batmobile.
Previously, LEGO has made two sets with the classic 1966 Batmobile. First came a somewhat smaller car that was included with the massive Batman ’66 Batcave set. Also, LEGO more recently released a standalone Batmobile that was about the same size as the previous, but used a different design. However, compared to these, the new Batmobile is much larger and has a lot more detail.
Some examples of the details are accurate labels, as just about every piece of Batman’s equipment bore labels. Also, the trunk opens to reveal a Mobile Crime Computer (labeled as such, of course).
Like many LEGO sets, the Classic TV Show Batmobile set includes a display plate showing information about the classic Batmobile. Also, it includes a minifigure of the Adam West Batman himself, with a gargoyle for him to perch on. However, this Batmobile is on a much larger scale than LEGO minifigures. So you can’t place him in the driver’s seat, but he makes a fine addition to a display of the LEGO Batmobile.
