First ‘Caped Crusader’ Clip Shows Off the Batmobile in Action

The first official clip of the Batman: The Caped Crusader dropped with the Batmobile in a high-speed chase.

The clip is fairly simple. Batman is driving the Batmobile in a high-speed chase with the police. However along the way, they also (quite literally) run into gangsters.

In keeping with the 1940’s aesthetic, the Batmobile resembles an old-school roadster. It has no overt decorational bat motifs, like sharp edges or scalloped fins. This thing is a pure muscle car from the 40’s. Not to say that it isn’t without some gadgets. We see Batman has a dashboard that is labeled: “Smoke, Chute,Thrust”.

There is an odd part where Batman sees some gangsters in the middle of the street and he-um- intentionally runs into them with the Batmobile. I don’t know how loose Batman’s ethics are in this show, but overtly drifting into unprotected humans with your high-speed car would definitely kill them. I wonder if this is something that they will address in the show.

The clip ends with an unmasked Catwoman eyeing the Batmobile from afar and retorting, “Nice car.”

The animation style is super crisp and smooth- typical of a Bruce Timm production. Some fans might notice that this clip utilizes split screens to see the action. This has never been done before in a Bruce Timm DCAU production, so it is interesting that he is integrating it into Caped Crusader. However, the choice is very effective, because the editing is very fast and the split screens make everything very snappy- like there is always action happening somewhere in a scene. This really ramps up an already exciting car chase sequence.

Batman: Caped Crusader debuts in North America on August 1st on the Amazon Prime streaming platform.
