“Poison Ivy” – Chapter Twenty-Four

Poison Ivy was looking very dead the last time we saw her. After fighting her ultimate boss battle to wrap up her origin story in a neat little bow, it seemed that Ivy had given up. The next step would be to figure out the aftermath of the battle. Poison Ivy #24 is making me hope for a rebirth.

Every single time one of the characters opens their mouth, I want to praise G. Willow Wilson. Poison Ivy #24 is yet another amazing show of Wilson’s ability to write for multipool characters. You can see the difference in every single one of their dialogues. It has been a change from the first issue when it was just Ivy and her inner monologue. We now have a cast of characters and all of them have a unique way of communicating. G. Willow Wilson manages to make sure all of their voices are heard without any confusion, or feeling like it is breaking up the flow.
I would like to give an honorable mention to a couple of moments in Poison Ivy #24. Everyone interacting with Solomon Grundy, is single-handedly the best thing to see. They can all understand his inferred meaning, even though he only speaks in his nursery rhyme. The next shout out goes to Ivy, Harley and Janet from HR> I think Wilson knew what every single one of us wanted when they all ended up hashing it all out… and I have to say, it was not what I was expecting, yet everything I needed.
Outdoing Botticelli
There are some things you are never supposed to do.., comparing someone to a Greek goddess is one of them. Yet, here we are. Haining has me out here about to get smote by Aphrodite. Adding in the pure color talent of Arif Prianto and you get some stunning visuals. There are several other panels that show off the amazing team work of our artists. You know what’s coming. THE HAIR. It’s all so flowy and magnificent, I don’t know how Haining does it, but it always looks so stunning and humanly unobtainable.
Conclusion
Wilson has tied up everything in this issue that was an ongoing arch. I can not explain how 24 issues of this run has affected the character and the way she should be perceived from now on, but I really hope the whole of the DC team is paying attention. Poison Ivy should always be written like this. I can not wait to see what Wilson has in store for us next.
