Absolute Power: Ground Zero #1 brings about the beginning of the next great threat to the DC Universe. Let the war commence!

Also for this issue to make sense to you my lovely readers, you should read the following comics first: Batman #148, Superman: House of Brainiac, and Suicide Squad: Dream Team.

Stage One

So, to kick off this wonderful 3 story anthology issue we’re back with the Dreamy Nicole Maines who’s been killing it of late with her writing. Since her time playing Nia Nal on the CW’s Supergirl, she’s written almost everything that has featured the character of Dreamer in main comic continuity, and I have to say she has made her a cool full-time hero popping up all over.

If you’ve read Suicide Squad: Dream Team, you’ll know that poor Dreamer’s fallen into the very dangerous clutches of Amanda Waller, who’s going to extreme lengths to use and abuse time travel, people who can see the future, and any and all advantages (Classic Waller) ahead of her upcoming big plans.

This story tells us that with the leverage she holds over Dreamer and that she may have corrupted her for good. This was beautifully drawn and written for us to feel the pain and inner torment that Nia’s going through.

Stage Two

As I mentioned above… Time travel is something Waller has now started using. As I mentioned above… Time travel is something Waller is… Wait… How many times have I said this? Waller’s enlisted a new member of the Suicide Squad, the Time Commander, who we last saw in Batman: Urban Legends. Some handsome nerd reviewed that way back when for this site, so maybe you too should travel back in time, to the year 2023 and check it out.

So, a villain who isn’t the worst kind but instead more of a curious scientific time traveler has now been coerced to help Amanda Waller revive a very very dangerous piece of technology. Read the latest run on Batman to understand what I mean. This little middle story really sets the stage for the main event. I was shocked as everything really is all coming together.

Stage Three

The final tale in this three-part issue was the wild card and I did not see what was coming at all. So, make sure to finish reading House of Brainiac before you read this issue. We see the culmination of Amanda Waller’s planning come together so she can fashion a new and unpredictable weapon that only she can control, and point against whomever she wants. I won’t give too much away, but I’ll say this chapter was something that blew my mind and surprised me, so I’m very excited to see how the rest of this story plays out.

Conclusion

Absolute Power: Ground Zero #1 was a great, exciting, punchy read that has left me super hyped for the entire “Absolute Power” event. Which I will be reviewing for you, my loyal readers! Stay tuned, the stage is set, the players are in position, and the war begins in Absolute Power #1!
