Sideshow Collectibles: Painting The Batgirl Premium Format Figure

Sideshow Collectibles have just released a video showing Chie Izuma hand painting the stunning Batgirl Premium Format Figure they added to their collection at the beginning of the year.

It’s truly incredible watching Izuma turn a colorless shell into a beautiful Batgirl and screaming Clayface. You can tell that she’d gone through lots of trial and error to get the colors absolutely perfect, just how she gives the illusion of black armor without actually using it. With a careful eye for detail, she splatters mud over the heroine without it looking like a pattern and carefully paints her eyes looking in one direction.

Thinking ahead, she highlights the areas that will eventually be lit up with white and glue to imitate a glowing effect before the LED lights are put into place. The speckle she gives Clayface to give an appearance of sand to show the difference between dry sand and wet is amazing. It’s always a joy to see an artist at work, to see the different ways to bring their piece to life and watching Izuma is no exception.

Batgirl stands atop a defeated, screaming Clayface, neutralized by electrified Batarangs glowing blue. His efforts to escape are in vain as the faces of Dark Knight and her father, Commissioner Gordon, scream in agony alongside him, his last show of the night. Wearing her black tactical suit, Batgirl’s arms and legs are wrapped in bandages, and the gold of her boots, gauntlets, utility belt, and bat symbol practically glow against the mud covering her. Especially compared to the crowbar the mud is dripping off of. Her long iconic red hair, however, is smooth and untouched. As expected.
