The Cameras Are Rolling On James Gunn’s New Superman Movie

Recently announced by DC Studios’ Co-CEO and director James Gunn, his new Superman movie (originally titled Superman: Legacy) has officially begun production!

The writer/director posted the first still; a close-up, snow-covered S logo, and revealed the movie’s new, simple, and more powerful name, Superman, on Instagram. Fans are feeling hope again.

Written and directed by Gunn, this film will be the first movie in the new DC movie universe, which has been talked about and promised since 2022. Currently, all we know about the plot is that it won’t be another origin, and will deal with Clark balancing his human upbringing with his Kryptonian heritage. We will undoubtedly learn more as production continues, before its planned release in July 2025.

Superman will star David Corenswet (Pearl, The Politician) as the Man of Steel himself, Rachel Brosnahan (The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel) as Lois Lane, Nicholas Hoult (Mad Max, Warm Bodies) as Lex Luthor, and Wendell Pierce (The Wire, Jack Ryan) as the beloved Perry White.

We will also get to see Isabela Merced as Hawkgirl, María Gabriela De Faría as the Engineer, Nathan Fillion as Guy Gardner, Anthony Carrigan as Metamorpho, Edi Gathegi as Mister Terrific, Skyler Gisondo as Jimmy Olsen, Sara Sampaio as Eve Teschmacher, and Terence Rosemore as Otis. With Hawkgirl making an appearance, it’s fairly safe to assume that she’ll be getting her own movie eventually as well. Well… one can hope.

We’re looking forward to seeing how Gunn brings Supes to the big screen once more after Henry Cavill’s version. What are your thoughts on the new Superman movie? Are there any characters you’re hoping to finally see brought to life? Let us know in the comments section.
