Review by James Attias

Paws Up, the wait is over… Titans: Beast World #1 is here! We have galactic threats, sacrifice, and surprises untold! The best bit? This is only issue one!  Let’s pounce on in!

Time to go Beast Mode

The highly anticipated event has arrived, but here’s what we knew beforehand from teasers, Tom Taylor, and the spoiler-filled internet: Beast Boy will at some point turn into a Starro. Some of the DC characters will become animal hybrids, and the DC universe will be forever changed.

If you’ve read my review of Titans #5, you’ll know that we’ve also been teased with otherworldly villains. I’d also like to eat my words regarding the swift defeat of a certain squid alien face-hugger. I can see now that Mr. Taylor was setting up the long game. We also have a grand introduction from Brother Eternity.

So, if you haven’t been reading Titans the ongoing series, Boom tube to your local comic book shop and catch up because it’s quite important to the plot. If you’re also looking for some reading to clue you in on this book, read “Knight Terrors”. I’m not telling you why, just trust me.

All Hands on Deck

This issue kicks off this huge event in a great way. Not only do we sense the threat of a world-ending enemy, we feel the heartbreak of heroes going off to sacrifice themselves for the greater good. We also have a setup that seemingly comes out of nowhere and lands us right in the thick of the story.

As per usual, wonderful storytelling from Tom Taylor. I really hope the tie-in comics for this event are guided by his hand, as sometimes they can be badly thrown together cash-ins that take away from the main event. The same goes for the art, as Ivan Reis is in glorious form in this book… though isn’t he always? Everyone, man, woman, alien, or child is drawn brilliantly, not to mention several super teams (I’ve said too much!)

Conclusion

Titans: Beast World #1 delivers the perfect kickoff for the next big DC event, so don’t wait go grab issue one and jump in. I have high hopes for this one!
