New Titans Comic Series Will Lead To A Massive Change In The DC Universe

In an interview with CBR, writer Tom Taylor has teased that the new Titans comic series will lead to a massive change in the DC Universe. The “Dawn of DC” Initiative was launched earlier this year, revamping or relaunching a variety of titles in bold new directions, starting with Action Comics #1051. It also serves as a jumping point for new and old readers.

In an exclusive interview with CBR, Taylor (Adventures of Superman: Jon Kent, Nightwing), Joshua Williamson (Superman, Green Arrow), Tom King (Wonder Woman), Chip Zdarsky (Batman), Phillip Kennedy Johnson (Action Comics, Green Lantern) and Tini Howard (Harley Quinn) talked about the “Dawn of DC”.

Taylor said:

There’s something upcoming in the Gotham universe that’s getting a lot of fire under a lot of people, it’s going to be really exciting. There’s something that’s going to spin out of Titans, that’s a huge and massive, massive thing.

The new Titans series officially releases in May 2023, following the events of Dark Crisis on Infinite Earths #7 and Nightwing #100, where the Justice League disbanded, and Dick Grayson and the Titans have turned the private prison in Blüdhaven into their new headquarters.

The synopsis for the first issue reads:

The Dark Crisis is over, and the Justice League is no more. Now, a new team must rise and protect the Earth… Titans, go!

The Teen Titans are ready to grow up. Each member joined as a much younger hero, certain that one day they’d be invited to join the Justice League. Now the time has come for them not to join the League… but to replace it!

Are the no-longer-teen heroes ready for the big leagues? Danger lurks around every corner as heroes and villains alike challenge the new team before they’ve even begun.

Will the DCU ever be the same? Find out in this landmark first issue brought you by the all-star creative team of Tom Taylor (Nightwing, DCeased) and Nicola Scott (Wonder Woman: Historia, Earth 2)!

Titans #1 features cover and variant cover art by Scott, with additional variants by Jim Lee, Jen Bartel, Dan Mora, and Simone Di Meo.

The first issue of the new Titans comic will be released on May 16, 2023, from DC.
