‘Pennyworth: The Origin Of Batman’s Butler’ Cancelled on HBO Max

Pennyworth Season 1 Episode 101: Pilot

HBO Max has cancelled Pennyworth: The Origin of Batman’s Butler after three seasons.

Initially the show premiered its first two seasons on Epix, then HBO Max picked up Pennyworth for its third season. However it seems that it’s also going to be the last.

There’s no real word on why the series was cancelled, although it’s not that hard for fans to make connections between the cancellation and newly-announced DC Studios film and television slate. When CEOs James Gunn and Peter Safran announced the upcoming plans for DC Studios, Pennyworth wasn’t a part of them. This news seems to have also led to the cancellations of other HBO Max shows, like Doom Patrol and Titans.

An HBO Max spokesperson expressed gratitude to the high-stakes drama and adventure that the series provided.

“While HBO Max is not moving forward with another season of Pennyworth: The Origin of Batman’s Butler, we are very thankful to creator Bruno Heller and executive producers Matthew Patnick, Danny Cannon and John Stephens, along with Warner Bros. Television, for their brilliant, unique, gripping depiction of the origin of Alfred Pennyworth, one of the most iconic characters in the Batman world.
An incredible blend of action, drama and humor, for three seasons, Pennyworth: The Origin of Batman’s Butler has taken fans on a mind-bending ride into Alfred’s eccentric world and the beginnings of cutting-edge super heroes and super villains.”

All three seasons of Pennyworth: The Origin of Batman’s Butler is still streaming on HBO Max for now.
