Gotham Knights Gameplay Trailer And Console Cancellation

The latest update for the upcoming Gotham Knights game is bitter-sweet, as they have finally released a gameplay trailer, at the same time as announcing that it will not be released on old gen consoles, as originally planned. So lets start with the bad news first.

PlayStation 5 and Xbox X/S have been out for over a year and a half now, officially making PS4 and Xbox One ‘old gen’ consoles, but also making the studio rethink their original plan since the game was revealed in 2020. We were given no specific reason for their choice to change which consoles to release Gotham Knights on, except to say that it would “provide players with the best possible gameplay experience.”

Great… More S#¡t Heads To Beat Up!

The first official gameplay trailer for Gotham Knights is centred around Nightwing and Red Hood, showing off their wildly different fighting styles and how they travel across Gotham. Fans will also have the choice of playing as Red Robin and Batgirl too, so hopefully they’ll get their own gameplay trailer before the game is released.

Note: In Game Footage – Subject To Change.

Narrated by game director, Geoff Ellenor, he notes how the two characters being showcased differ. Nightwing’s movements are quick and acrobatic, which is what he would expect given Grayson’s past. He even has his glider ‘The Flying Trapeze’ to help him move around the city. Whereas Red Hood relies heavily on his guns and distance to shoot “non-lethal bullets that still do a lot of damage”.  He also jumps around the city with a new ability he got when he was resurrected by a cult, allowing him to use his soul to keep him in the air. All of this makes me wonder what other abilities he may have in the game.

An official description of Gotham Knights reads:

Gotham Knights is a brand-new open world, third-person action RPG featuring the Batman Family as players step into the roles of Batgirl, Nightwing, Red Hood and Robin, a new guard of trained DC Super Heroes who must rise up as the protectors of Gotham City in the wake of Batman’s death. An expansive, criminal underworld has swept through the streets of Gotham, and it is now up to these new heroes to protect the city, bring hope to its citizens, discipline to its cops and fear to its criminals. Players must save Gotham from descent into chaos and reinvent themselves into their own version of the Dark Knight.

Gotham Knights is set to release for the PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X, Xbox Series S, and PC on October 25th. There are also several different versions available to pre-order from $69.99 to $299.99.
