‘I Am Batman’ #6 Posters Spotted in New York

DC Comics is promoting I Am Batman #6 with a poster campaign featuring designs that have appeared all over New York City. The campaign is in conjunction with the series’ change where Jace Fox moves from Gotham City to the Big Apple.

John Ridley writes I Am Batman #6. Ken Lashley and Rex Lokus provides the art. The poster features Jace in costume without his mask. Behind him is the the iconic New York skyline, including the Empire State Building.  Taurin Clarke illustrated the piece. The ad posters are are massive in size, standing six feet tall by eight feet wide and are photo-op ready.

If you are a New Yorker or planning to hit the Big Apple, check out which parts of the city have the print ad by clicking here.

This is honestly one of the coolest pieces of marketing any comic publisher has done in a while. It reaches an audience beyond comic shops. Random New Yorkers may pass by the posters and get excited by images of an African American Batman who also now lives in their city. It’s smart marketing. Previously, the most ambitious marketing campaign DC had done was when they launched commercials when the New 52 initiative first started in 2011.

However, the majority of the time DC and Marvel have struggled to do more outreach for consumers beyond the normal comic book readers. Hopefully we can see more marketing promotions similar to this in the near future.

The campaign runs now through Wednesday, February 16. I Am Batman #6 hits  comic book stores and digital platforms February 8.
