Batgirls and Robins Unite In Three All-New Series

The sidekick revolution begins now! On November 9th DC Comics will release the first issue of Robin & Batman, a tale where we’ll experience the adventures of the original Dynamic Duo from the junior team-member’s point of view. Soon after we’ll be getting two brand new series, Batgirls, and Robins, where we’ll follow the three active crime-fighters who use the name Batgirl, and the five who have officially been Robin, over the last 80 years.

Here’s a ten-page preview of Robins #1!

As a fan, I’m super excited, but as editor-in-chief of Dark Knight News, I’m scared I’m going to have to stop my review team from fighting each other for the chance to review these books.

Robin & Batman is by the Eisner-winning superstar team of writer Jeff Lemire (Sweet Tooth) and artist Dustin Nguyen (Li’l Gotham).

Robin & Batman

Robin fans have a lot to be thankful for this November.

The Eisner-winning superstar team of writer Jeff Lemire (Sweet Tooth) and artist Dustin Nguyen (Batman) are reuniting after their incredible run on Descender and Ascender for Robin & Batman, a three-issue miniseries exploring the beginning of Dick Grayson’s crime-fighting career.

The world’s first sidekick is just starting out at the side of Batman, struggling to find his own path from personal tragedy to being a Super Hero. It’s an intimate look at the first growing pains of one of the legends of Gotham City in this gorgeous, 40-page prestige format title.

Batgirls

Cassandra Cain and Stephanie Brown are both Batgirl again. This development has been a long time coming, but it was solidified in Batman: Urban Legends because this under-the-radar Bat-book has been consistently excellent since it debuted. Issue #5 featured a fun adventure starring Cassandra Cain, Stephanie Brown, Barbara Gordon, and a surprise guest.

To see the whole journey that led to Batgirls, check out the DC Comics Blog by Joshua Lapin-Bertone, it’s a worthwhile and educational read!

Batgirls is written by Becky Cloonan and Michael Conrad (Wonder Woman), and Jorge Corona (Batman).

Robins

Closing off this titanic trio of titles will be the Digital First series (already available online) which will be available in print form from November 26th.

Not only does this series unite Dick Grayson, Jason Todd, Tim Drake, Stephanie Brown, and Damian Wayne; the fab five will be battling a new adversary claiming to be the very first Robin, someone who wore the mask before even Dick Grayson! To top it all off, fans who love just how gorgeous these characters will get to witness four of the heroes hit the gym on variant covers for issue #2. Hey, physiques as good as theirs don’t come easy!

Robins is written by Tim Seeley (Grayson, Suicide Squad: King Shark), with art by Baldemar Rivas (Unearth), and colors by Romulo Fajardo Jr. (Justice League).

What say you, Bat-Fans? Will you be picking up, Robin & Batman, or the Batgirls and Robins titles? Be sure to let us know, either in the comments or on social media.
