Barbara Gordon has been through a heck of a lot over the last seven decades, but now she’s donning a new outfit to fight possibly her last fight as Batgirl.
With the technology curing her spinal paralysis, caused at the hands of Joker in The Killing Joke, at risk of failing, Barbara Gordon continues to train Stephanie Brown (Spoiler) and Cassandra Caine (Orphan) to take over the mantle in the new upcoming The Batgirls series. Of course, that isn’t the only thing keeping her busy. There’s someone impersonating her other persona ‘Oracle’, and endangering the people of Gotham City as well as the Bat-Family, luring them into traps. One of these already almost killed Dick Grayson in the Fear State arc. Despite being told not to join the battle, no one tells Barbra Gordon what to do.
The Fear State story arc finally sees Batgirl in her new outfit, a variation of her Burnside costume designed by artist Bruno Redondo. Although similar in color, this new uniform’s more streamlined and has a lot more tech added to it, which, of course, is totally Oracle’s thing.
We can only hope that this isn’t the last we see of Barbra Gordon as Batgirl, this is what GamesRadar’s Michael Doran had to say about that:
Time will tell if Batgirl fans are witnessing the final days of Barbara as a costumed street-level crimefighter, or if she’ll continue to join the fights on special occasions like the current ‘Fear State’ crossover, and they’ll always be something of a debate about which version of Barbara is the best version. But for the moment, she’s still Batgirl and has a new look to be enjoyed for however long it lasts.
