Batman ‘89 artist, Joe Quinones, has recently revealed the identity of the Robin that was originally going to appear beside Michael Keaton in Tim Burton’s Batman movies, but was side-lined due to an overstuffed cast. Thankfully, he still gets a chance to wow the world in a comic!
There have been many Robins in the DC Universe, and with plenty of different actors to portray them outside of the comics too. Starting with the original, Dick Grayson, and later Jason Todd, Carrie Kelly, Tim Drake, Stephanie Brown and then finally Damian Wayne, being added to that list after years, is Drake Winston, and the actor Burton chose to play this new Robin many years ago and never got the chance to shine, was none other than Marlon Wayans.
Quinones revealed all of this news on his Twitter feed, along with a stunning cover art for the Batman ‘89 issue #4.

Originally Richard Drake for the movies, writer Sam Hamm chose to change it to Drake Winston as both his names are already associated with previous Robins. As Wayans’ Robin was never named in the ‘89 movie, fans assumed that he would be another version of Grayson, however, Quinones and Hamm have chosen to make this Robin brand-new, and not a clone of any of the others.
Find out who Wayans’ Robin really is when Batman ‘89 #4 is released on November 9th. If you haven’t started this series yet, check out our review of issue #1!
