Have you ever wanted to play as Batman’s rogues? Now you can take on the role of a villain and try to ‘Escape from Arkham Asylum’.
Coming from Spanish Studio Knight Models, Batman: Escape from Arkham Asylum brings players into a semi-cooperative game within the confines of Arkham Asylum. Players won’t be trying to escape the prison for the criminally insane as Batman, Nightwing, Batwoman, Robin, or other heroes. Instead, players will try to escape one of the most secure prisons as one of Gotham’s notorious criminals.
While details are scarce, the studio has been quiet about how the game will actually play ahead of its Kickstarter campaign planned for later this year, there are some details. Players will be able to choose between popular rogues Poison Ivy, Bane, Scarecrow, Two-Face, The Penguin, Harley Quinn, and The Joker. They’ve also said that no one villain will be able to escape on their own; they will be forced to ally themselves with others to bypass specific threats. While alliances are a must, they are meant to be broken and easily discarded—as villains do.
Just because players take on the role of a villain doesn’t mean Batman isn’t involved in Batman: Escape from Arkham Asylum. Taking inspiration from the 2009 video game, players must keep an eye to the shadows and rafters because the Dark Knight will crop up when least expected and put players at a disadvantage.
Batman and the Rogues Gallery will be represented by 35mm miniatures, though how they’ll be used is still unknown. More will be known when the Kickstarter launches this Fall (2021), which Knight Models claims is “intended to be the biggest Batman project ever done” on Kickstarter.
