Review by Philip Clark

Batman/Fortnite: Zero Point #1 is finally here and it… is… GOOD!

Now, don’t get me wrong, I went into this title with a fair amount of  apprehension, but I was pleasantly surprised with what I read. I was fully expecting it to be the current laughing stock of the DC Comics verse, much like the Deathstroke/Yogi Bear run a few years back, but no… this strangely works.

Full credit goes to the creative team for setting up a mini-series that shouldn’t work at all, but blends our love for comics and video games perfectly.

Last Bat Standing

The Dark Knight is whisked away to an alternate universe… dimension… plane of existence..? Look, all we know is that he’s no longer in Gotham. Launched into a rift of time and space and everything in between, Batman finds himself on the backfoot in a brawl to the death.

With most of his memories escaping him, only instinct is keeping our favourite Caped Crusader alive. That is until he meets a mysterious new ally, or are they new at all? A familiarity between the two leads to them kicking some serious butt, and standing victorious. For now.

I suppose this was always going to be inevitable after Epic Games revealed that they were adding in Batmanverse content for the players, including costumes of some of our favourite Gotham City alumni. It was only a matter of time before we had this crossover. Taken seriously, it can be something spectacular.

Massive credit also goes to the art team as well. They managed to capture both the seedy grit of Gotham, and the bright confusion of the Fortnite game within a few pages of each other.

Conclusion

There are still plenty of unanswered  questions at the end of this issue, as is to be expected at the beginning of a new series.
Plenty of build up and foundation laying by Gage, cliff-hangers and mysteries abound! Yeah, Batman/Fortnite: Zero Point #1 is a winner.

I should probably say this in hushed tones, but I’m actually looking forward to the next one.
