Wallis Day is the New Kate Kane in ‘Batwoman’

Batwoman has revealed that Wallis Day will take over the role of Kate Kane in the CW series.

Previously, Ruby Rose played Kate, but due to personal reasons they opted to leave the show. Instead of re-casting Kate as Batwoman, the producers decided to introduce Ryan Wilder as a totally new character, taking on the superhero mantle.

Not that Batwoman forgot about Kane’s character. The show leaned into Kane’s disappearance as its central mystery for season two. Now producer Caroline Dries has confirmed that Wallis Day will play Kate Kane moving forward.

In a brief statement to TVLine, Dries let fans know her excitement in bringing Kate back in the picture.

Wallis Day is going to be playing our altered version of Kate Kane, and she’s an amazing actress. I’m excited for you guys to see the journey that she endures.”

The most recent episode revealed that Kate was alive, but burned beyond recognition due to a plane crash. She was shown as injured, bandaged, and held hostage. The series will delve more into what Kate has been doing since the end of season one.

Day herself seems pretty stoked to be a part of Batwoman. On Twitter, she said how excited she is to be a part of the Bat-family.

Previously, Day appeared in the DC Comics related show Krypton, and The Royals.

Kate Kane as a Supporting Character?

As far as solutions go, bringing Kate back with a different actress is probably the best way to handle the situation. Obviously, Batwoman was put in an awkward spot when Ruby Rose announced she was stepping away from the show. So many plot threads surrounded Kate, so it is difficult to just drop them. The producers were forced to either start over or ignore Rose’s resignation and recast a new lead.

It turns out they did a little bit of both. The show injected some new life with a new lead, while still acknowledging Kate’s existence.  Probably as elegant of a solution as any.

New episodes of Batwoman continue to air on The CW on Sundays.
