Joe Barton is New Showrunner for ‘The Batman’ Prequel Series

Article by Eric Lee

The Batman spin-off HBO Max series secured a new showrunner: Joe Barton.

Barton has already been the showrunner for the Netflix and BBC crime drama Giri/Haji. In addition to his show-running credit, he’s also written the AMC sci-fi drama Humans and Netflix series, like Troy: Fall of a City and Half-Bad.

Joe Barton will replace previous showrunner Terence Winter. Reportedly, Winter left the The Batman prequel series due to creative differences between him and film director Matt Reeves.

Previously, the series was confirmed to be a prequel to The Batman, set a year prior to the film. This is around the time where Batman first appeared in Gotham City and upsetting the established corrupt institutions.

The HBO Max series will focus on the Gotham Police department and its reactions to the sudden appearance of this mysterious masked vigilante.

There is no firm release date for the Gotham PD-centric series.
