Review by Steve J. Ray

It came… it finally came! The cliffhanger ending from Detective Comics #1027. which came out what seems like a millennia ago (but was in fact only three months) finally has a pay-off. Yes, dear friends, we finally get to catch up with the original 1939 Batman, Kamandi, and many more, in the eagerly anticipated Generations Shattered.

This book is so cool. Not only does it feature legends like Dan Jurgens, Scott Hanna, Wade Von Grawbadger, Yanick Paquette, Kevin Nowlan, Klaus Janson, Paul Pelletier, John Romita Jr., Doug Braithwaite, and Rags Morales, but also the cream of today’s talent too! Ivan Reis, Joe Prado, Fernando Pasarin, Oclair Albert, Aaron Lopresti, Matt Ryan, Emanuela Lupacchino, Bernard Chang, Sandra Hope, Danny Miki, and Mike Perkins. This is a who’s who of some of my favorite writers and artists!

The best part is… they deliver!

Crisis On Infinite Timelines

This book is all action; from the opening pages it’s all go, go, go! We see the present, the future, and so many classic moments from the past (that I actually own copies of) that it feels like these incredible creative talents made this book just for me. My Teen Titans, my favorite Superman era and supporting characters, the original Batman, Booster Gold, the classic Legion of Superheroes… the list goes on.

Every one of them is drawn impeccably, and their characters ring as true today as they did in the vintage tales I know so well, and love so dearly. One would think that with all these artists, with their varying styles and personalities, that this book would be an assault on the senses, but the timelines and jumps through the many eras make it all work, brilliantly. The excellent colors by Hi-Fi and the lettering by the tremendous Tom Napolitano help keep the look of the book consistent, and beautifully polished.

Do I know what’s going on, or how this is all going to end? Nope, I haven’t a clue… but I can’t wait to find out!

Here’s a sneak peek at some of the art from the next chapter, Generations Forged:

Conclusion

Time travel, cosmic threats, action, explosions and more cool characters than you can shake a stick at; Generations Shattered has it all. Dark Nights: Death Metal has set events in motion that will forever change the DC Multiverse… or should that now be Omniverse, or even Metaverse? I don’t know which of these names is correct, but I know what I’d call this issue.

Awesome fun.
