Review by Fay Clark

While we waited for this last issue to come out, I don’t know about the rest of you, but I’ve been pining for Gemworld, I even re-read the first 5 issues, just to make sure I was ready. I can confirm… I really wasn’t. I’ve missed these characters, and the Gemworld, and was so anxious to find out what crazy plot Amethyst #6 had in store for us.

You’re A Diamond

Amy Reeder’s taken us on quite a ride, from start to finish. Having to wait for Amethyst #6 was super painful. Now, having read it, I wouldn’t have had it any other. I now know that I’d be happy to wait for Amy Reeder for as long as it takes. The lady has some magical skill that make people want to read anything she puts out. Oh, wait… that’s called talent! The plot line over the first five issues was not something anyone expected at all, so when the time came for Amethyst #6 to be realised I really had no idea what was going to happen. As per the other issues, we new it was going to be well written, and epic but that was all the knowledge we had. I can promise you, that’s the way you want to go into this issue.

The Crowning Gem

Reeder answered all my questions, and tied up loose ends like a pro. The characters are at their best in the finale, and we finally get some form of closure. Although it might not have ended up exactly as we expected, it still felt right. Amy Reeder obviously spent a lot of time planning this all out, and this is obvious from the way everything ended. The subversion of expectations will never cease to amaze me, this issue delivered a spectacular finale, with a heart warming, yet gut wrenching close.

The artwork was yet again amazing, but that’s been a consistent theme all throughout the series. Every issue contains stunning artwork, and amazing colors, all combining to create Gemworld. All the different hues that represented the Gems, and their part of Gemworld have been consistently amazing, and it’s no different in Amethyst #6. Great effort put in by Amy Reeder and Marissa Louise, who gave us all such a fantastical ending. The attention to detail, specifically in the first few and last few panels, blew my mind.

Conclusion

Everything was brilliantly wrapped up, and amazingly drawn. The plot was great in it’s final hurrah, and everything fell into place really well. We were taken on a rollercoaster of emotions that defiantly hit us right in the feels. I will sorely miss reading Amy Reeder’s work, but I’d be very happy to return to Gemworld with Princess Amethyst anytime.

What a satisfying end to a great series!
