Mariko Tamaki to Write ‘Detective Comics’

Article by Eric Lee

DC Comics have announced that writer Mariko Tamaki and artist Dan Mora will be the new creative team for Detective Comics post-Future State.

The CCXP Worlds 2020 virtual con broke the news.  Tamaki will be only the second female lead writer on a Batman comic, but the first on a core title. The previous female writer was Devin Grayson, who wrote the spin-off comic Gotham Knights in the 2000’s. However, the fact that Tamaki is the first on a major, long-running book like Detective Comics is historic.

Tamaki’s Resume

Mariko Tamaki and Mora previously collaborated on a short story in Detective Comics #1027, titled, “A Gift.” Furthermore, Tamaki and Mora will also contribute a story to Future State: Dark Detective.

Tamaki’s other non-Batman comics work includes X-23, Harley Quinn: Breaking Glass, and most recently Wonder Woman. This past July, she picked up a multiple Eisner awards for her Young Adult graphic novel Laura Dean Keeps Breaking Up with Me and Breaking Glass.

Looking forward to reading Tamaki’s run on Detective Comics. Her first issue will be released in March 2021.
