Critics Choice Super Awards Nominates ‘Harley Quinn’ in Three Categories

Article by Adam Poncharoensub

The Critics Choice Awards has always been your average movie/TV awards ceremony. However, instead of industry professionals like filmmakers, voting is undertaken by members of the Critics Choice Association, comprised of TV, radio, and movie critics. It seems that the CCA has decided that genre movies and TV have been so prevalent in media, that they require their own awards ceremony. Adding “super” to its name will do the trick. The new awards ceremony is known as the Critics Choice Super Awards, so I guess they wanted to rope in the demographic that tunes in for Sci-fi/fantasy, action, horror, superhero, and animated movies and TV. Well, they definitely got my attention with this inaugural ceremony, since they just nominated Harley Quinn in three categories.

Stiff competition

If it’s not clear, DKN basically adores Harley Quinn: The animated series airing on DC Universe, and now HBO Max. As I’ve mentioned countless times in the past, the show’s incredibly well-written, smart, subversive, hysterical, and heartbreaking. It’s a beautiful series that deserves all the accolades it’s received.

It looks like the show’s about get legitimized, because, in a huge press release for the Critics Choice Super Awards Kaley Cuoco’s been nominated for Best Voice Actress in an Animated Series, J.B. Smoove for Best Voice Actor, and the big one, Harley Quinn‘s been touted as Best Animated Series.

While I would love for them to win in all three categories, they’re up against some stiff competition. Take a look below for the categories Harls has been nominated in:

BEST ANIMATED SERIES

Archer (FXX)
BoJack Horseman (Netflix)
Big Mouth (Netflix)
Central Park (Apple TV+)
Harley Quinn (HBO Max)
Rick and Morty (Adult Swim)
Star Trek: Lower Decks (CBS All Access)

BEST VOICE ACTOR IN AN ANIMATED SERIES

Will Arnett – BoJack Horseman (Netflix)
H. Jon Benjamin – Archer (FXX)
Nick Kroll – Big Mouth (Netflix)
John Mulaney – Big Mouth (Netflix)
Jack Quaid – Star Trek: Lower Decks (CBS All Access)
Justin Roiland – Rick and Morty (Adult Swim)
J.B. Smoove – Harley Quinn (HBO Max)

BEST VOICE ACTRESS IN AN ANIMATED SERIES

Kaley Cuoco – Harley Quinn (HBO Max)
Tawny Newsome – Star Trek: Lower Decks (CBS All Access)
Maya Rudolph – Big Mouth (Netflix)
Amy Sedaris – BoJack Horseman (Netflix)
Aisha Tyler – Archer (FXX)
Jessica Walter – Archer (FXX)

Let’s face it, Rick and Morty is likely going to win. If not, there’s Archer, BoJack Horseman, and Big Mouth who could easily take the prize away from HQ. Also, Smoove can’t really compete with Will Arnett, H. Jon Benjamin, or Nick Kroll. As amazing as Cuoco has been as Harls, there’s Amy Sedaris and Jessica Walter, who are both wonderful in everything they touch. However, the recognition is still there and most deserved.

Patrick Schumacker celebrated the nominations with a Tweet:

Other comic book and geek properties getting love.

To be acknowledged and nominated for any awards is always a great honor, right? I was once nominated, it was awesome. I peaked in high school, guys.

The rest of the nominations are full of fantastic shows and actors, many of which are DC properties. You’ll recognize Birds of Prey, Superman: Man of Tomorrow, Legends of Tomorrow, Doom Patrol, the Flash, Lucifer, Black Lightning, and Supergirl. Some big comic book and geek shows like The Boys, Umbrella Academy, and The Mandalorian have also got some nods. You can check out all the extensive categories and nominations here.

The Critics Choice Super Awards will air on the CW on January 10, 2021.

Be sure to tune in to see if any of our favorite DC properties nabs an award.
