DKN Spotlight Review: DC: Collecting The Multiverse: The Art Of Sideshow *Gift Idea*

“DC Collecting The Multiverse: The Art Of Sideshow”
Writer: Andrew Farago
Foreword by Kevin Conroy
Review by Steve J. Ray

Just under a year ago I wrote a review for what was, without a doubt, my book of the year for 2019. That book – Batman: The Definitive History Of The Dark Knight, was co-written by Andrew Farago… who has only gone and done it again! The incomparable Insight Editions have teamed up with the incredible Sideshow Collectibles to make DC: Collecting The Multiverse: The Art Of Sideshow, a serious contender for book of the year 2020. (Its only rival is, you guessed it, another Insight Editions book!)

Sideshow + Insight = A Feast For The Eyes

If you’re a regular visitor to this site you’ll know that Dark Knight News loves just about everything Insight Editions and Sideshow Collectibles send our way. Both these companies collaborate with DC to create some of the best looking books, and beautiful collectible figures and statues available. When this book was announced we all got excited… I’m sure, just by looking at these pictures, you’ll understand why.

Andrew Farago hasn’t just written a book about a company that makes cool collectibles, he’s pulled together conversations with the sculptors, artists, and designers behind these wonderful figures, statues and dioramas. We get to see the process of creating these gorgeous pieces of art, from conception to release. All of this isn’t just fascinating, it’s educational.

Heroes And Villains

Batman, Robin, Joker, Harley, Killer Croc, Superman, Wonder Woman, The Flash… they all appear on these pages. The quality and finish of this book, replete with stunning HD photography, is nothing short of excellent. It’s a huge, heavy volume, but it’s worth the price tag, and is so much more than an art book. When you read the comments from the people behind these pieces you’ll get a new appreciation for their hard work, passion, and talent.

DC: Collecting The Multiverse: The Art Of Sideshow is a work of art… which just happens to document the creation of other works of art. As a huge fan of both Insight Editions and Sideshow Collectibles, the two month wait from its announcement to its commercial release has been worth it. The peek behind the curtain, the glimpse into the creative process, and the foreword by the legendary Kevin Conroy are the icing on the proverbial cake.

Conclusion

This book would make a wonderful gift for DC fans, Bat-Maniacs, and memorabilia collectors… heck, buy a copy for yourself as an early Christmas present! This book should absolutely, positively, and definitely be on your holiday gift list.

You can pre-order it now, in time for its official release next week.
