In case you forgot, James Gunn is currently in post-production on The Suicide Squad. Back in August, we got some behind the scenes footage and a roll call for the massive actioner coming next year. Unfortunately, we have yet to see the trailer, but anticipation still seems to be strong. I know I’m still crazy excited for it. While we wait for our first trailer, the TSS cast assembled for an Empire magazine cover. In fact, they got together for two, and they’re awesome.
It looks like the October issue of Empire magazine will have a feature on TSS. The December 2020 issue will go on sale later next week, but in the meantime, James Gunn treated us to the cover featuring the new Task Force X.
Take a look:

Loving the look and feel of this cover. Though the cast remains cool and collected in their costumes, the chaotic background says so much with so little. Also, I love that Gunn is clearly not straying away from the silliness of it all. More than 75% of this band of misfits look absolutely ridiculous. I mean, look at Weasel and The Thinker. The movie doesn’t take itself seriously at all and considering how DC movies usually are, that will be so welcome.
On top of that, Gunn treated us to another cover meant specifically for subscribers.
Oh, and here’s the subscribers-only cover of @TheSuicideSquad on @EmpireMagazine. I don’t know what it is, but something about it is even cooler. #TheSuicideSquad @MargotRobbie @idriselba @JohnCena pic.twitter.com/4ENWfjtsTO

Assemble!
As I said before, Gunn seems more interested in finding the lighter, more comedic side of things. He doesn’t really take himself or his movies too seriously. This cover exemplifies that so much. As you can see, they’re broken characters who are just enjoying each other’s company in this group photo. Similar to Guardians of the Galaxy, they’re a dysfunctional family, but family nonetheless. Unfortunately, several of them will die.
Just in case, here’s the roll call for this incarnation of Task Force X, from top to bottom, left to right, it’s:
- Sean Gunn as Weasel
- Pete Davidson as
- Steve Agee as King Shark
- Jai Courtney as Captain Boomerang
- Mayling Ng as Mongal
- Peter Capaldi as The Thinker
- Flula Borg as Javelin
- Michael Rooker as Savant
- David Dastmalchian as Polka-Dot Man
- Nathan Fillion as TDK
- Joel Kinnaman as Rick Flagg
- Daniela Melchior as Ratcatcher 2
- John Cena as Peacemaker
- Idris Elba as Bloodsport
- Margot Robbie as Harley Quinn
The December issue, featuring the cast of TSS on the Empire magazine cover, will hit shelves on October 29, 2021. The Suicide Squad hits theatres on August 6, 2021. Stay tuned to DKN for more updates.
