It seems that Matt Reeves’ eagerly anticipated The Batman is seeing a release date move. After Robert Pattinson had tested positive for COVID- 19 and had successfully quarantined, shooting resumed on Sept. 17th. Recent announcements by Warner Bros. however, show that a number of film dates are changing. The studio has now made the announcement that quite a few films dates will be moved around, due to the current pandemic. The Batman is one of them, as it’s being moved from Oct 1, 2021, to March 4, 2022.
As the studio is battling the pandemic it’s also moved Dune up into the Oct 1st slot for release, as it’s wrapped its filming. Many other major changes have been made to other DC Films like The Flash, Shazam! Fury of The Gods, and Black Adam. The Flash is also moving back from June 3, 2022 to Nov. 4, 2022. Shazam! Fury of the Gods is leaving the previously announced Nov. 4, 2022, date and is shifting to June 2, 2023, while Dwayne Johnson spinoff Black Adam is moving off its Dec. 22, 2021, slot and has now been left without a date.
Uncertain Future? Or Safer Prospect?
It’s hard to say what other changes might come for the studio, as what is coming next from COVID-19 is unable to be determined. From this standpoint, we’re glad to see the studio making decisions that keep their staff safe and at the forefront, but all of them will affect not only the cast and crew, but also the viewers.
While it’s very sad that we’ll have to wait a lot longer to see all these amazing films, the fact that the the studio making decisions that keep health and safety at the forefront gets a bravo from us here.
