Jeffrey Wright Talks ‘The Batman’ Teaser, and Resuming Production

Article by Adam Poncharoensub

Last week at DC FanDome, Matt Reeves unleashed a teaser for The Batman, and thankfully, most fans seem to have loved it. In case you haven’t seen it, I strongly suggest you do. With only 25% of the film shot, we managed to get a near complete teaser that establishes the story, tone, and overall feel of RBattz’s version of the Dark Knight. It’s evocative, tense, terrifying, and beautiful. It seems that the man playing Commissioner James Gordon is just as excited about it as we are. In an interview, Jeffrey Wright talked about The Batman.

Speaking to SiriusXM, the actor discussed various aspects of the script that he really admired, and joked about how the makeup on Colin Farrell was so incredible, that he didn’t recognize him.

Take a look:

I believe we can now fully confirm that it is Colin Farrell, underneath a ton of prosthetics and makeup in that teaser. The makeup artist created such a convincing transformation that even his co-star didn’t recognize him on set. There’s a lot of talent working on this project, man.

Though Wright doesn’t really mention anything we already didn’t know, as he waxed poetic about the script, the fact that he gushes  about the script instils a ton of faith. He talks extensively regarding the mystery in the film and how it’s part of Batman’s history. The thing that seems to raise the most enthusiasm from Wright, though, is how grounded the film is. He feels that the movie is mostly realistic and therefore, accessible to people. Interestingly, he also mentions that the teaser contains no CGI whatsoever, explaining that the lighting was done entirely on set. In an age where post-production and special effects are overblown, it’s refreshing to see that most of the flick so far utilizes practical effects. It’s really cool that what we see in the teaser, is basically what he saw on set.

Getting back behind the camera

According to Wright, production will resume in September. This is in line with the paparazzi photos surfacing on the Internet, showing the Batmobile back on set. In May, the UK government approved some new safety guidelines that would allow film production to resume, so I suppose WB is ready to start implementing them, to get RBattz back in the cowl and Colin Farrell back under the prosthetics.

Even though Jeffrey Wright spoke enthusiastically about The Batman, unfortunately, we didn’t learn a whole lot, we just gathered a few things from the teaser that Wright expanded upon. However, he did indicate that CGI was not utilized for the look of the flick, which is exciting to hear.

What do you think? Do you think Wright’s insight on the script is exciting? Let me know.

Stay tuned to DKN for more updates.

The Batman hits theatres on October 1, 2020.
