Zoe Kravitz Explains Why Robert Pattinson Is Perfect For Batman

Article by Chris Foti

Zoe Kravitz, who’s playing Catwoman in The Batman, not only believes Robert Pattinson is worthy of the list, but that he’s perfect for the role.

Batman fans have been pretty blessed when it comes to the portrayal of the Dark Knight. Despite the varying quality of the films, the actors who have portrayed him have (mostly) nailed the character. Adam West, Michael Keaton, Christian Bale and Ben Affleck were all great in their varying interpretations of the character. Keaton is even in talks to return (again)! Even Val Kilmer gives an underrated performance in Batman Forever. We’ll skip Batman & Robin.

Kravitz believes Pattinson’s early career as a teen idol, and recent maturation, have helped in his portrayal of Batman. In an interview with Variety she explains:

First of all, he’s just a really good actor. He started out as this kind of teen pop sensation, and then I think we all kind of saw through his work that there was a lot more going on. He’s a really interesting artist, and that is very much Batman in a way. We have the illusion of Bruce Wayne, and then we have Batman in the shadows that has a lot more complicated things going on. So just in that, I think he’s perfect for this role. He can relate in that way, and he looks good in the suit, man. He looks good in the suit. That’s a good jaw line.

Going beyond Pattinson’s personal experiences throughout his career and his personality, she also compliments his ability as an actor. She explains how restrictive the Batsuit can be and how truly skilled one has to be to portray the character in it.

He’s just a great actor, and he brings so much to everything he does. I think that it’s a really hard role because people are expecting a lot. Also it’s restricting in a lot of ways. You’re wearing the suit, and you can’t see their eyes, and you can only move in a certain way. So you have to get really creative in terms of how can you portray a multidimensional character? He’s way up for the challenge and has really interesting ideas already. I think he’s perfect, perfect casting.

Is it just me, or does Zoe potentially give away something massive about the Batsuit here? When she says “you can’t see their eyes”, is she hinting that we might get the first live action Batsuit with white slits instead of seeing the actor’s eyes!? The only official look we’ve had of Pattinson’s cowl is tough to tell, due to the lighting.

Either way, it’s exciting to see Zoe Kravitz speak so highly of Pattinson in the role. It could just be professional courtesy, but the actors on The Dark Knight constantly praised Heath Ledger’s performance of the Joker, and we all know how that turned out!

The Batman is scheduled to be released on October 1, 2021.
