Bruce Timm Reportedly Working On New Animated Batman Film

Article by Chris Foti

Bruce Timm is allegedly returning to the world of the Dark Knight. The Batman: The Animated Series co-creator is rumored to be making a direct-to-video new animated Batman film called Batman: Soul of the Dragon.

With the animated movie universe having ended with Justice League Dark: Apokolips, Timm’s film will be its own Elseworlds tale. The movie will feature Batman, Richard Dragon, Bronze Tiger and Lady Shiva. All of them trained under the same sensei before they mysteriously vanished. When a mystical artefact reappears, they all battle for control of it.

If the rumors are true, this will mark the first time that Richard Dragon appears in animation. He’s mentioned in Batman: Arkham Origins as an associate of Lady Shiva, but never makes an appearance. He also appears in a comic continuation of Young Justice, but never appears in the show itself. A live action of his Ricardo Diaz persona was a villain in Arrow, played by Kirk Acevedo.

Dragon was created by DC and comics legend Dennis O’Neil, who unfortunately passed away yesterday due to natural causes.

While Timm is highly regarded by Batman fans due to his work on Batman: TAS, his last major project in Batman and Harley Quinn was… not his finest work. If Batman: Soul of the Dragon turns out to be true, here’s hoping Timm can get back to telling great Batman stories.

Batman: Soul of the Dragon is reportedly slated for a 2021 release.
