James Gunn Announces Wrap on Filming on ‘The Suicide Squad’

Aside from the very chatty James Gunn and his omniscient presence on social media (Not complaining at all about this. In fact, he’s such a delight on Instagram), the production on writer/director James Gunn’s The Suicide Squad has been fairly quiet. Aside from a few set photos here and there, I don’t think I heard that much from set. Really, the only news we ever really gathered was from Gunn himself. On Friday, Gunn took to Instagram to announce the wrap on filming on The Suicide Squad, sharing a cast and crew group photo and a heartfelt note of gratitude.

It’s a Wrap!

Take a look at his Instagram post below:

The photo on top looks like the title treatment printed on black canvas, likely from a chair on set. The group photo below is so small that it’s hard to make out too many faces. Except Margot Robbie in the center, who looks to still be in Harley Quinn makeup.

Working through the pain

While I knew his dog had passed during filming, I had no idea that his father passed before the start. Losing someone so precious is incredibly difficult, but losing two in such a short span of time must be near impossible. It looks like he was able to pour himself into this movie and maybe, it just helped him deal with the pain of loss. That could be why he called this “the most fulfilling time I’ve ever had making a movie.” The fact that he was able to soldier on and continue creating this piece of art is something he’ll probably never forget. It’s just something that he can look to forever, knowing who he lost to make this movie happen.

It’s more than ever that I want to see this movie.

So James Gunn announced the wrap on filming on The Suicide Squad and you’re still not following him on IG? What are you waiting for?

Stay tuned to DKN for more updates on The Suicide Squad.

The Suicide Squad hit theatres on August 6, 2021.
