Review by Sam McTernan

Teen Titans #39 delivers a few changes; firstly a new creative team, with Robbie Thompson as co-writer, plus Eduardo Pansica on pencils and Julio Ferreira on inks. Secondly, the team actually seem to be working together, which, let’s be honest, is very refreshing indeed!

The story itself flows really well, right from the start I was hooked. It’s always intriguing to see how a writer is going to direct the story following the end of an arc. With the Other out of the way, Glass and Thompson have had to introduce a new challenge, a new threat to the team. The Titans find all of this and more when they embark on their quest to save D’Jinn.

As well the absolutely amazing writing, the art is insane, and we get some beautiful, dynamic scenes. A particular favourite can be seen above; the Teen Titans diving into action. It captures the essence of the team perfectly and shows the characters individual traits as well. Maiolo on color duties as usual delivers, and the combination of a new artistic style with familiar color work not only gives us a fresh feel, but one that will satisfy long term fans.

Conclusion

A new threat is always difficult, this time its certainly an exciting one that will bring a complex story over the next few issues. I’m excited to see the how things progress. Overall I’m as happy as ever with this brillaint series, and Teen Titans #39 has delivered the goods. Consistently great writing, art, and overall… it’s just a joy to read.

My only issue going ahead is can it keep up this level of quality? It’s no easy task to keep putting out work like this. I certainly hope the team can keep delivering.
