DC Takes Over Los Angeles Zoo For Comic Event

Article by Eric Lee

DC Comics arrived at the Los Angeles Zoo this past weekend to give zoo-goers a first-hand look at new comics.

“DC Presents: Reading with Zoo-per Heroes at the L.A. Zoo” dominated the zoo for a day. The comic event featured DC characters, creators demonstrations/signings, and up-close animal presentations. It promoted the release of DC’s middle-school line of graphic novels under the DC Zoom imprint. The creators of the graphic novels were on hand to celebrate the occasion.

Author/artists appearances included Agnes Garbowska (DC Super Hero Girls); Shannon and Dean Hale, Victoria Ying (Diana: Princess of the Amazons);  Michael Northrop (Dear Justice League); Ridley Pearson (Super Sons); and Kirk Scroggs (The Secret Spiral of Swamp Kid).

The event kicked-off with an honorary naming ceremony at the Los Angeles Zoo. The zoo’s green and black “Russell” is the name of their poison dart frog. After that, crowds were treated to a panel discussion with the writers. Ridley Pearson even had a close encounter with a boa constrictor during a snake-themed presentation. Meanwhile, the artists gave drawing lessons.

Batman was even spotted giving photo opportunities to the children. It’s a safe bet to to say that a wild time was had by all.
