Ladies and gentlepeeps, we have a guest speaker. Here to help? Harley and Ivy have some ‘splainin’ to do to Batwoman in Harley Quinn and Poison Ivy #5, if they expect her to believe them. Of all the Bats in all the hero circles she just had to motor her way right up to Harley and Ivy. I’m glad she’s here, because after everything the girls have been through recently maybe Batwoman can actually help them figure things out!

Holy Green Weeds, Batwoman!

Jody Houser has been doing an extraordinary job with this mini-series. Every time a new issue pops up I let out a classic Harley squeal and then sit down, ready for some awesomeness. We get all this and more in Harley Quinn and Poison Ivy #5 with a special guest appearance from Batwoman! Adding this extra dash of greatness just proves that Houser can write. Not only does she make sure that Harley and Ivy have their own voices and stand out from one another, we now know she can juggle even more. Batwoman comes into play and still feels like Batwoman, not just someone attempting to sound like her.

It takes a real talent to make readers want to keep coming back each week for more, that’s what Jody has in buckets. The plot line just keeps getting more interesting and well thought out, and the characters keep true to themselves with witty dialog to match.

Green’s the Theme.

We’re getting more and more green as time goes on. Adriana Melo and Mark Morales are almost as good a team as Harley and Ivy. The art work we see from them is detailed and crisp, every panel has something new to look at every time I go back. The emotion is so plain on their faces, we almost don’t need Jody Houser’s awesome writing… almost. There’s some majestic use of shadows as well, there has to be when you bring in a Bat. I would also like to just praise Melo and Morales for taking on a Bat and winning, they really did her justice. I’m sure she’d be happy to hear that.

Conclusion

I’ve loved all 5 issues so far and don’t want this series to end, please just give me all the Harley and Ivy for the rest of my life. Harley Quinn and Poison Ivy #5 was a ride I won’t forget. The bombshell Houser let go off at the end had me reeling!

There’s no map for how this road trip will end in the next issue, but I’m happy to get lost with my girls just to see what happens next!
