EDITOR’S NOTE: Potential Spoilers Ahead!

The Plan Is In Motion

Everything is happening in “Nevermore”… and I do mean everything. This should have been the episode they called “Overwhelmed”, instead of last episode.

With The Outsiders, and The Team joining forces to attack Markovia and retake it from Baron Bedlam. The Markovs lead the charge, with Beastboy and Cyborg. While the attack is taking place, we’re given insight into The Light’s plans for Terra. She’s given orders to kill Beastboy as soon as Deathstroke gives the word. When that happens however, Artemis manages to intervene and reveal that they’ve known about Tara’s deception from the very start. Giving her a choice, she makes the right one. Immediately before her brother makes the wrong one.

Killing Baron Bedlam on live TV before letting the power get to his head and claiming the throne for himself. Brion segregates himself from The Outsiders. While all this is going on, Cyborg hijacks the signal of Terra’s earpiece, giving Jefferson access to seeing who’s on the other side of the call. Who does he find, but none other than Lex Luthor and Deathstroke.

Following along so far? Good because we’ve not even reached the halfway mark of “Nevermore”!

Now, Let’s Get Down To Business

Okay, now hold on to your hats people because it’s about to get crazier!

With new evidence in hand, Jefferson addresses the U.N, and forces Luthor to step down from his position. It is revealed that Dr. Jace takes place at the newly appointed King’s side. Brion’s new adviser is also revealed to be on The Light, what this holds for Markovia’s future who’s to say?

Finally a moment to relax, before whatever next plan The Light have is put into place. The centre of this Young Justice universe, Nightwing, calls everyone to have a meeting aboard The Watchtower. Surprised at the fact that pretty much every hero shows up, Batman has to remind him that he has more influence than he thinks. This is evident as he proceeds to tell the gathered heroes about the secret “Anti-Light” group they had created to try and beat The Light at their own game.

Claiming they had lost their way, Wonder Woman and Aquaman step down from leading the Justice League, and Miss Martian steps down from leading The Team. In a shock, only to him, Black Lightning is nominated to be the new leader of the Justice League. It makes perfect sense to me, seeing that he’s been the only one to have any conscience about all that happened this season.

Conclusion

Man, oh man… what a finale!

I’m so glad that “Nevermore” ended Young Justice: Outsiders on a high. We jumped straight into the action and the pace didn’t let up. Before I give my opinion on the season as a whole, I just want to mention the small montage at the end of this episode, which sets a few things up for next season.

Infinity Inc. pledge themselves to King Brion, as The Light tighten it’s grip around Markovia. While The Team and their families are enjoying a nice private party at a local cafe, one of the servers is wearing a Legion of Superheroes ring! I really hope this means we get the time travelling heroes next season, or at least a couple of them!

As an entire season, Young Justice: Outsiders was almost faultless. I think we were all expecting a lot more of Darkseid, possibly as a fight against The Justice League. Instead we got something that was a little reminiscent of the very first season. It was all very grounded, only occasionally taking short trips into space. Most of it was focused on the group of young heroes as they split apart from a group of older heroes. Sound familiar?

I mean, if it ain’t broke don’t fix it right?

I’m looking forward to the future projects the team behind Young Justice: Outsiders produce. Including hopefully, the next season of Young Justice.
