‘Joker’ Nabs Four Golden Globe Nominations

Article by Eric Lee

Joker has landed a whopping four Golden Globe nominations, including Best Picture and Best Director.

The prestigious film awards put out its nominations, with Joker topping the list. The film has nominations in Best Motion Picture, Best Director, Best Performance by an Actor in a Motion Picture – Drama, and Best Original Score – Motion Picture.

Amusingly, Joker’s director will compete for the Best Director Golden Globe with Martin Scorsese. Director Todd Phillips has gone on the record that Scorsese’s work directly influenced Joker‘s direction. Even more amusing, are Scorsese’s recent comments about comic book movies not being capable of conveying true emotion. Now a comic book movie is contending for Best Picture against Scorsese’s The Irishman.  Other Best Picture nominees include 1917The IrishmanMarriage Story and The Two Popes.

A minor in-joke for Bat-fans, Joaquin Phoenix will go against Christian Bale for the Best Dramatic Actor Role, making it the least violent Joker versus Batman fight ever. Or at least a fight where nobody dies via laughing gas.

Joker already won the Golden Lion at the 2019 Venice Film Festival. More recently, the New York Film Critics Online voted Phoenix as Best Actor for the movie.

Joker is still in theaters. It will arrive on Digital HD on December 17th and Blu-ray and DVD on January 7th.

The 77th Golden Globe awards will air January 5, 2020.
