‘Joker’ Is Now Highest Grossing R-Rated Movie Ever

Article by Chris Foti

Step aside Pennywise, Deadpool and Wolverine, Joker is now the highest-grossing R-Rated movie of all time!

As of Friday, the film has now grossed $788.1 million, topping the previous R-Rated record holder Deadpool, which had $783 million. Deadpool himself, Ryan Reynolds, even took to Twitter to congratulate the DC film in a very Ryan Reynolds way.

Joker has currently made $258.6 million in North America and $529.5 million from foreign box offices. Analysts believe that the film will wind up around the $900 million mark. Not too shabby considering the vast amount of audiences alienated from the film due to the R-rating.

Todd Phillips, Martin Scorsese and Joaquin Phoenix have all stated that Joker was meant to be a one and done film. It’s not part of the larger DC Films universe. No sequels. No spin-offs. It will be interesting to see if they change their tune after the film’s huge box office success.

I’m sure Warner Bros. will throw them all the money that they would want. I would also hope that the creative team gets together to discuss possible ideas for where a sequel could go. I would also hope that if it’s not an idea that they’re truly in love with that they just leave it as is, despite all the possible money on the table.

Joker is still currently dancing down the stairs in theaters.
