Joker dominated the weekend box office again, taking in another $55 million.
The film fended off new releases Gemini Man and The Addams Family to remain number one at the domestic box office. In its second weekend, Joker’s audience attendance dipped a mere 43%. This is an impressive feat in a time when the average second weekend box office attendance dips 50-60%.
Joker also broke the record for largest October second weekend ever, beating Gravity’s $43.2 million from 2013.
International Box Office
Overseas, the film also continues to perform strongly. The movie gained an additional $123.7 million across 79 foreign markets. This currently puts the international gross at $351 million, for a grand total of $543.9 million.
This gross makes the movie the 9th highest grossing DC movie ever. The movie in front of Joker is 2017’s Justice League at $657.9 million. Of course, the big difference is that Justice League costed the studio far more than Joker’s conservative $55 million budget. And given Joker‘s rate, it may end up overtaking the superhero team-up movie within a few months.
Joker is now playing in theaters.
