It’s weird to think that just a few months ago, I was not on board with Todd Phillips’ Joker, and now I actually can’t wait to see it. I’d blame it on that awesome trailer, which you should see if you haven’t already. That was just the teaser, which means that we should be be getting a full theatrical trailer, right? I could continue onwards with a silly charade, but you guys are smart, so I’ll drop the pretense. You should know where I’m going with this… especially since you probably read the headline. In an insane and elaborate piece of marketing, it seems that the Joker Instagram is teasing a new trailer with six videos.
Huh? What exactly do I mean by that? Well, check out the six Instagram videos below first and then, I’ll explain.
Marketing for Psychopaths?
While the majority of the videos either provide new footage or extended scenes from the previous trailer, you can gather nothing substantial from them, except that you know they’re probably all from the new trailer. Also, we find out that Arthur likes to hang out in his fridge. That seems pretty cool (pun definitely intended with only minor regrets). However, eagle-eyed viewers will notice that each clip contains one thing in common: a quick blink-of-an-eye flash of something appearing on screen.
Well, apparently, if you capture each flash and you arrange them in a collage, it will spell out a message and no, it’s not the whereabouts of your lost socks. It’s actually the date of our new trailer.
Some sleuths on the Internet put it together for us, take a look:
It’s both ingenious and terrifying. It just seems like something a psychopath with access to social media would do to tease his pursuers and that was obviously intentional. Either way, it looks like they successfully managed to tease a new trailer with six videos. We should expect it this Wednesday. It’s a great new spin on those banal teasers to the trailer trends that have been cropping up in recent years.
Stay tuned on Wednesday, August 28th for the new trailer.
Joker hits theatres on October 4th.
