SDCC 2019: DC Universe Confirms ‘Young Justice’, ‘Doom Patrol’ Renewed, ‘Titans’ Season 2 Premiere Date

Article by Adam Poncharoensub

While Warner Bros. and DC didn’t have a Hall H panel this year, it doesn’t mean that DC was entirely absent from San Diego Comic-Con this weekend. DC Films is undergoing a bit of an overhaul, and the DC Universe streaming service has been there to pick up the slack. While they’ve already treated us to a trailer, there’s more fantastic news to be had. This weekend, DC Universe confirmed new seasons for Young Justice, Doom Patrol and the premiere date for season 2 of Titans.

Who knew that the bizarre little show known as Doom Patrol would be so wonderful in so many ways? This weekend at SDCC, we received confirmation that Doom Patrol will be back for a second season. Both an experiment and a demonstration of faith in the series, WB has decided that Doom Patrol will no longer premiere exclusively on DC Universe and will simultaneously premiere on HBO Max. In case you hadn’t heard yet, Max will be AT&T’s massive streaming service that will encompass most of WB’s catalog. An interesting choice and clearly a way for AT&T to test the waters on the series and the platform. Doom Patrol is a pretty quirky, live-action, adult-oriented series that does seem to fit well with some of HBO’s programming. It makes sense. I love the series, so I hope it shows their willing to invest more into it. Season 2 will premiere in 2020.

All of our favorite teams will return!

Relief washes over me as I type this sentence. While enjoying the return of Young Justice, it occurred to me recently that the season is ending soon and that we didn’t know if it was coming back for another season. I would think to myself, “Surely, they will. The show’s fantastic and fans have wanted it for so long.” Last night finally put me at ease. Greg Weisman and Brandon Vietti appeared at the panel, announced season 4 and that it was already in production. Thank you DC gods, for bestowing upon us the bountiful gift that is another season of YJ.

Lastly, we finally have a premiere date for Season 2 of Titans. While we knew it was renewed last year and we knew that filming was underway, we didn’t yet know when we’d see the series. At last, it’s happening in just 2 months. On September 6th, Season 2 of Titans will hit DC Universe. Unfortunately, I’m not so sure that DC Universe will stick to that premiere date considering a stunt accident led to the death of a special effects coordinator this week. As a result, production was temporarily shut down. DKN sends their sympathies to the family and friends of Warren Appleby. All things considered, I think it best for DC Universe to back-track and postpone the premiere date.

There you have it. DC Universe has confirmed new seasons for two fan favorite series’ and a premiere date for the second season of another one.

Be sure to subscribe to DC Universe for all of these fantastic shows. Stay tuned to DKN for more updates.
